Using Launch Monitor Metrics To Improve
Precise metrics are at the core of a launch monitor. But do you know how golf launch monitor metrics can improve your game? Most golfers are not aware of what each metric measures and what the data means.
To improve at golf, it is critical to understand these metrics and what they mean. In our post How Golf Launch Monitor Metrics Can Improve Your Game, we explain how you can use launch monitor data to analyze & improve your golf game!
Camera vs Radar Tracking
Todays high-end launch monitors take advantage of camera or radar systems. There is no right or wrong answer. The question is what fits your situation and needs the best.
The Full Swing KIT uses Doppler radar as its main tracking mechanism.
Camera
Technically called “Photometric”, these types of launch monitors use multiple high-speed cameras to capture ball & club data. Photos are captured before and after launch and then sent to proprietary software.
Customized algorithms are used to calculate metrics based on the captured data. In this case, the more cameras, the more accurate the results.
Pros
Cons
Radar
Doppler radar systems measure ball data through the use of radar sensors. They follow the entire flight of the ball until it lands. When they have this line-of-sight, they are very accurate.
Radar-based systems require a clear view of the ball and hitting zone from behind. Because of this, they need a lot of space.
Pros
Cons
Full Swing KIT Radar System
As mentioned above, the Full Swing KIT primarily uses a Doppler radar system to track ball flight. However, they use a patented system called “5D AI Micro-Doppler Radar“.
This is a very advanced and tracking system that results in very accurate tracking and metrics for outdoor use.
How Does 5D AI Micro-Doppler Radar Work?
Full Swing’s 5D AI Micro-Doppler Radar is a type of radar system that incorporates artificial intelligence (AI) and can measure not only the velocity and position of objects, but also their micro-Doppler signature.
The micro-Doppler effect refers to the small changes in radar signals caused by the motion of an object’s internal structures, such as rotating or vibrating components.
A 5D AI Micro-Doppler Radar system can therefore provide detailed information about the movement and characteristics of an object, such as its size, shape, and internal structure.
The “5D” in the name refers to the five dimensions of information that the system can capture: the three spatial dimensions (x, y, z), as well as the frequency and time dimensions.
By analyzing this data using AI techniques such as machine learning, the system can identify and classify objects with a high degree of accuracy, even in challenging conditions.
Full Swing KIT Features
The Full Swing KIT launch monitor comes with some great features. Here are more details on them.
5D AI Micro-Doppler Radar
The radar system in the Full Swing KIT is highly advanced and extremely accurate as we mentioned above. This is a major improvement over the Mevo+ and it delivers great results.
Heads-Up Display
An external heads-up display is integrated into the unit and the metrics it displays are configurable.
The display is a 5.3†Ultra-bright, Full HD (1920×1080) OLED with 16.7 million colors which delivers extremely crisp and readable text.
4K Camera, 1080P Output
The Full Swing KIT includes an integrated camera that outputs in 1080p. This means your videos will be crystal-clear and easy to view.
Compact Design
The Full Swing KIT is built so compact that it can actually fit into a large pocket of your golf bag. This is actually a huge advantage over photometric launch monitors which are relatively large compared to this unit.
The unit only weighs 4 lbs. and measures at 10.2†H x 6.6†W x 2.3†D
Titleist Radar Capture Technology (RCT) Ball Integration
The KIT supports Titleist RCT golf balls, which provide the clearest radar imaging for more accurate indoor spin measurement.
Water Resistant IP54 Rating
The KIT is rated IP54 for dust and water resistance. It is designed to withstand water or rain for a limited amount of time.
See our post Understanding Waterproof Ratings for Golf Gear and Apparel for an in-depth explanation of Ingress Protection (IPX) ratings.
IP54 Rating Details
- Particles (IP5): There is limited ingress of dust permitted, and dust will not interfere with operation of the equipment over two-to-eight hours.
- Water (IP4): It is protected against water splashed from all directions. Limited ingress is permitted
Full Swing KIT Space Requirements & Hitting Area
Although the Full Swing KIT launch monitor can be used indoors, it is not the best option. However, here are the requirements for use (indoor & outdoor).
Minimum Space: 18′ feet
- 10′ behind the ball
- 8′ in front of the ball
Full Swing KIT Ball & Club Data
The following ball and club data is included with the Full Swing KIT.
For more information on what these metrics mean and how to use them to improve, see our post How Golf Launch Monitor Metrics Can Improve Your Game.
- Carry Distance
- Total Distance
- Spin Rate
- Spin Axis
- Ball Speed
- Club Speed
- Smash Factor
- Club Path
- Face Angle
- Face to Path
- Attack Angle
- Launch Angle
- Horizontal Angle
- Apex Height
- Side Carry Distance
- Side Total Distance
Simulator Software
The Full Swing KIT is only compatible with E6 simulation software. There is no method to make it work with GSPro or The Golf Club 2019.
E6 includes Courses, Mini Games, Skills Combines, Training Aids, and more. It includes constant updates.
E6 Connect
What makes this unique?
- Full practice and course package
- Polished interface and graphics
Summary
E6 includes Courses, Mini Games, Skills Combines, Training Aids, and more. It includes constant updates.
E6 also comes with different driving ranges, putting areas, chipping areas, and games for kids.
E6 is more of a combo of GSPro and TGC 2019. However, we would recommend one of those 2 over this due to the price vs. value.
Is the Full Swing KIT Right For You?
After reading this post you hopefully have a good understanding of the Full Swing KIT features. The KIT is an interesting launch monitor. It is a quality unit, but seems to be designed for a super-small subset of golfers.
Reasons to Buy
The Full Swing KIT launch monitor was developed with input from Tiger Woods. It is a radar-based launch monitor, that includes a 1080p integrated swing camera.
Buy it if you hit balls outside 90% of the time and just want to use it indoors occasionally. It could be great if you teach and even want to use it on-course.
However, If you plan to use this indoors as you main launch monitor, we recommend you find an alternative (such as the Bushnell Launch Pro).
Remember that radar-based launch monitors are incredibly accurate outdoors, but struggle indoors.
Reasons to Skip
Unfortunately, there are a lot of reasons to skip. The unit, hardware, and technology is very impressive and accurate. But it doesn’t fit the needs of most golfers.
(See our page on Launch Monitors for more options)
- No Android, Windows, or Mac support
- Radar-based (not as accurate indoors)
- Requires a subscription for any saved or historical data
- Only works with E6 simulation software
